The Humid Tropics of Brooktondale

Nicholas is now 11 weeks old and is using his hands quite a lot to grab things, like rattles and toys. He is also able to lift his head up and hold it steady much better. Last night he weighed in around 17 lbs (7.7 kg), but I think he is somewhere between 16 and 17 lbs. Certainly, still a hefty baby!

Yesterday was extremely hot and humid for this time of year, and we had a wild wind storm during the early morning hours (around 2 am or so), with the full moon eerily illuminating the valley. Accordingly, Nicholas decided to be a tropical baby, practicing for his February visit to Juiz de Fora (we bought our tickets yesterday!). For his storybook imagination, this meant cavorting naked through his jungle gym, talking to animals (his stuffed duck and Inca), and hanging out in the hammock: drooling with joy at the howl of the wind, the companionship of family, and the unexpected clamminess of a September day against his soft, smooth skin.
